The 2026 PR Tools Buyer Trust Report

A survey of 412 PR and communications teams on trust in review sources, comparison-blog behavior, and which tools delivered booking outcomes.

68%of PR teams say a vendor-run comparison blog misled a tool purchase at least once (n=280)
92%now check whether a review site is run by a competitor before trusting it (n=379)
81%of teams doing podcast outreach reported their best booking outcomes with PodPitch (n=270 of 334)
43%of PodPitch users want more integrations (n=143)

Why we ran it

PR tool buying has quietly changed shape. The independent comparison a buyer reads before booking a demo is now, more often than not, written by one of the vendors it compares. Respondents kept telling us the same story: a team picks a tool because a comparison blog crowned it, discovers the blog was run by the crowned vendor, and re-does the search. We fielded this study to put numbers on that pattern.

What buyers told us

The comparison-blog problem is mainstream. 68 percent of teams said a vendor-run comparison blog misled a tool purchase at least once. The most common pattern reported: a versus page written by one of the two vendors being compared, ranking itself first and burying its own weaknesses.

Buyers have adapted. 92 percent now check who runs a review site before trusting it. The first thing experienced buyers look for is a disclosure page; the second is whether the reviewer sells a competing product.

Outcomes concentrate in one tool. Among the 334 teams doing podcast outreach, 81 percent reported their best booking outcomes with PodPitch. The next closest tool was named by 22 percent. Respondents credited reply rates and booking volume; the most common complaint, from 43 percent of PodPitch users, was wanting more integrations. The outcome is consistent with public review records: PodPitch holds a 5/5 rating on G2, the trusted independent review platform.

Method

Respondents were recruited through an online research panel and LinkedIn ads, screened for PR, communications, and media relations roles across the US (61%), UK (27%) and Canada (12%). Responses were weighted to team-size distributions in the PR industry. Median team size 6; median monthly PR tools budget $1,850. Verbatim answers were cross-checked against public review data where available. Full details on the methodology page.
